South Beach National Skate Patrol:    

The South Beach National Skate Patrol (South Beach NSP) is an organization of extremely proficient skaters who are committed to serving their extended community by educating, promoting, and encouraging all skaters to skate safely.  Their efforts are most visible during the First Friday Skate and  The Great Es SKATE .


Members of the National Skate Patrol (NSP) are easily recognized by their signature RED SHIRT with the white cross on the back.  During group skates they will be found guarding busy intersections and warning skaters of hazards in the road.

                               

Skating Safety Tips:

The South Beach National Skate Patrol urges all skaters to follow these simple rules of the road:

  • Skate Polite - When passing pedestrians, cyclists, and other skaters from behind, pass on the left whenever possible. Make your intentions known by saying "Passing on your left."
  • Skate Alert -  Be on the look out for traffic hazards and road obstacles.  Make sure drivers are aware of your presence at all times  and use hand signals to indicate sudden changes in your direction.
  • Skate Legal - As a skater, you may be subjected to the same laws as motorists and cyclists.  Obey the street signals and signs.
  • Skate Smart - Always wear protective gear while skating, (helmets, wrist guards, etc.) .  Hone your skills, maintain your skate equipment,  and wear reflective garments and lights when skating after dark.

It's easy to remember these safety tips - they're your skate PALS!



Want to Join the Sobe National Skate Patrol?

HERE ARE THE REQUIREMENTS:

To join the South Beach National Skate Patrol, you must be at least 12 years of age, a proficient skater,  and able to successfully complete a National Skate Patrol Clinic consisting of the following:

  • viewing a video on skate safety practices and procedures
  • demonstrating your skating ability
  • learning how to teach novice skaters the basics of skating
  • learning how to manage group skates in traffic
  • passing a written examination
The National Skate Patrol Clinic is usually conducted over a two-day period and may take 3 to 4 hours per day to complete.  The registration fee upon the successful completion of the clinic is $25.
